Joel NR Powell is a highly accomplished personality in the entertainment industry. He started his journey as a disc jockey and became popular by creating Ninja Ryders Sound. Through this brand, Joel worked as a DJ and hosted the internet radio program, The Layer Show, which had a following of over 20,000 listeners every Saturday. His fan base grew rapidly, and he went on to host over 500 promotional mixtapes that were distributed across North America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Joel's professional expertise extends beyond entertainment. He holds a diploma in Business Management from Humber Business School and is the author of the award-winning self-help book, Black Empowerment & Minority Issues. The book explores the challenges faced by visible minorities in today's society and was highly acclaimed by critics. It was later adapted into a documentary called Empowerment through Awareness.
Joel also released a 7-track EP soundtrack, "7 Issues EP," based on the book and film. In addition to his work as a DJ, recording artist, author, and entrepreneur, Joel has been recognized with numerous accolades. He was awarded the Robert Nesta Marley Award for his contributions to the growth and awareness of African and Caribbean cultures. Joel has been featured in several media outlets, including XXL Magazine, The Source Magazine, Zoosk.com, and 1380 WAOK CBS Radio. He has also been a keynote speaker for various organizations and performed on two Canadian Tours with well-known Hip Hop Artists Tech N9ne and Jadakiss.
Joel's "The Ultimate Empowerment Tour," held from 2018-2024, was a huge success. It included over 500 book signings, film screenings, speaking engagements, and performances throughout Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. During this time, he collaborated with top-tier small businesses as well as corporate brands such as Starbucks, T-Mobile, Cricket Wireless & Subway Restaurants to host several events. Joel also has CPD certification through Alison Empower in the following: Introduction to Songwriting, A Comprehensive Guide to Voice-over Artists, A Guide to Start Acting in Film and TV, and How to Become a Professional Speaker. Joel also released 5 EPs, all written, produced, and performed, including “NR City EP”, “Visions In My Eyes EP”, “Rise EP”, “God Blessed Yute EP” and “The Delivery EP”. All of these EPs received high praise through media outlets such as Shoutout Atlanta, and Voyage ATL Canvas Rebel Magazine.
